An Efficient Way to Wash: LG TwinWash System

The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free

I find it amazing how much laundry our family must do every week.  I am looking forward to the day when my kids do their own laundry.  My mom gave me that responsibility between fifth and sixth grade, and I plan to do the same with our own kids.  For my daughter, that will be happening this year!

Recently, I gave my daughter a quick lesson on how to use our laundry machine and dryer.  One of the questions she asked was what to do with the knob that adjusts for load size.  I told her to just keep it at large or oversize.  In an effort to be energy efficient, we only do full loads of laundry in our house.

We inherited our washer and dryer with the house when we bought it in 2009 and it was several years old at that time.  I am sure we will be in the market for a new set in the near future!  There have been a lot of recent technological improvements to washers and dryers.  LG is at the forefront of such improvements.  For example, LG’s TwinWash system features a TurboWash 2.0 feature that saves up to 30 minutes on larger loads.  That in itself may be worth the investment!

The TwinWash system also allows you to wash smaller loads when necessary with the LG SideKick pedestal washer.  I can imagine that would be really handy when you just need to do a mini load.  For example, when my daughter or son has a basketball or soccer tournament, I just want to wash their uniform between games.  With LG’s TwinWash system, that would be easy to do without wasting energy!

From 1/11-4/25 receive up to $500 off a LG laundry solution for your home!

Book Review: Be The Hands And Feet

Before reading Be the Hands and Feet, I had heard about Nick Vujicic, but I did not know much about him.  Nick (after reading this book, you would feel comfortable calling him by his first name too, because he comes across as so personable!) was born without arms and legs.  However, he has not let his physical body limit him in any way.  He is an evangelist, motivational speaker, author, and the director of Life Without Limbs.   He travels around the world and has spoken to and touched the hearts of millions of people.  After reading his stories, and all that he has struggled through and accomplished, one would definitely call Nick “amazing”.  But, I bet that if you said that to him directly, he would quickly point to God as being the One who has allowed him to live such an amazing life.

This book is centered on a quote that is on the first page of the book: “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!” –Nick Vujicic.  This is so true.  We might think we have limitations that prevent us from sharing the Gospel with others, but God can empower anyone.  Nick’s unbridled love for God and others, as demonstrated throughout the stories in this book, is truly inspirational.  He lives in Southern California with his family now, so I am definitely going to be on the lookout for opportunities to hear him speak in person.

I was curious to learn more about Nick after reading this book, and discovered that he and his wife have twin girls that were born just last month (in addition to their older two sons)!  This was not mentioned in the book (probably due to the timing), but what an awesome blessing!

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.

My Fantastic Glasstic Water Bottle + Giveaway

I received a Glasstic Water Bottle for free for review, but all opinions are my own.

Finding the perfect water bottle can be difficult.  In fact, I was just recently cleaning out my cupboards, and I found that I had over forty of them–no joke, k counted them!  We donated or threw out the vast majority of our water bottles because they were faulty in some way.  Some were not leak-proof, some were too wide, some were too heavy, some were too flimsy, etc.  Ironically, a few days later, I received a Glasstic water bottle in the mail to test out.  Well, I am happy to report that this one is a keeper and is now my favorite water bottle!

The Glasstic water bottles are unique because they feature an inner glass wall and a protective outer shell made of plastic.  Get it, Glass + Plastic = Glasstic?  It has a lock to prevent spills, and the seal on the water bottle is truly leak-proof.  I once had a water bottle leak in my purse and ruin my camera, so I know the pain of a leaky water bottle.

I like the size of this water bottle.  It fits nicely in our car cupholder.  The handle is also convenient.

I brought it along to the gym and it fit perfectly in the elliptical machine cup holder.

One of my New Year resolutions is always to drink more water.  I have a feeling that my Glasstic water bottle will help me achieve my goal!

I am pleased to offer a giveaway for one of my readers to win a Glasstic water bottle in the color of your choice!

Put On Your Gloves: Enter the Ring Review

Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a complimentary copy of this book.  All opinions are my own.

D and I have been married for 13 years now.  We have been a couple for over 20 years…that is half of my lifetime, which is strange to think about.  Over the years, we have learned a lot about each other.  Yet, conflicts still arise and we still need God’s grace in our lives and relationship with each other everyday.

In the newly published book, Enter The Ring, D.A. & Elicia Horton, a husband and wife, write about how it is important to fight together for a “gospel-saturated marriage”.  D.A. Horton serves as a Pastor at Reach Fellowship, a church plant in North Long Beach.  I like how the Hortons are remarkably candid in sharing their relationship struggles, both past and present.  They do not claim to have the perfect marriage, but God’s work in their lives is plainly evident.  The book alternates between D.A. and Elicia’s voices, so the reader receives both a husband and a wife’s perspective.  Enter the Ring addresses practical topics such as communication, finances, and home life, all in a Biblical context with plenty of verses to back up their advice.  I would recommend this book to any couple, whether newly engaged or married for fifty years.  We all need to fight for our marriages in a world that is so eager to tell us it is easier to just give up.

Print Your Memories With TurnGram

I received a sample of this product for free from TurnGram, but all opinions are my own.

Lately, D has been taking a lot of pictures on his phone and posting them on Instagram.  However, I do not think he has ever taken the time to have any of his pictures printed.  That is just not something on his radar given the time and effort it would take.  He does capture some nice moments, though, especially of the kids.  It would be a shame if all of those memories just ended up floating in cyberspace forever.  Well, a company called TurnGram has created a solution for this problem!

TurnGram will select photos from your Instagram feed based on instructions you provide and deliver them directly to your door, or the door of your friends and relatives.

I requested pictures from D’s Instagram feed, and this is one of the pictures they sent me last month.  I really like the 4 inch by 4 inch picture size, which is perfect for capturing those square Instagram images.

I could also see this service as being a nice gift for grandparents.  For example, you could set up your account so that they receive photos of the grandkids from your Instagram account every month.

You can get your first month FREE when you sign up for TurnGram today; no coupon code required. There is a 100% money back guarantee if you are dissatisfied with their service in any way.  Check it out!

The Time To Care For Our Water Is NOW!

I am writing this sponsored post for Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to share this information and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

As I write this post, it is drizzling outside.  Unfortunately, this is an all too rare occurrence here in Southern California.  According to the Federal Forecast, drought conditions are “likely” to return in California in 2018.  Therefore, it is critical for us to continue to care for our water and to teach our children about the importance of water conservation.

In order to teach kids how to to care for our water, the NAAEE, WestEd K-12 Alliance, and Cal Water have teamed up to sponsor the Cal Water H2O Challenge.  This challenge is made up of two separate competitions.

The Individual Challenge is for students in grade 4-12.  It is a media competition where students can submit original art, photography, or videos that show the importance of caring for water.

The Classroom Challenge is a project-based, environmentally-focused competition for classrooms, grades 4-6.  Students are to initiate, develop, and implement a 4-8 week long project that focuses on the importance of water care.  There is a handbook on the website that includes a project guide and sample lesson plans.  Students are to create a final portfolio that documents their project.  The Classroom Challenge is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and is complementary to the Next Generation Science Standards.  Therefore, participating in the challenge is a valuable learning experience for students on many levels.  The final registration deadline is January 31, 2018!

Winners of the Cal Water H2O Classroom Challenge will receive:

Grand Prize

Class Celebration: Classroom tent-camping trip to the Santa Monica Mountains with NatureBridge

Class Funding: $3,500 grant

Extras: Cal Water Prize packs for every student

2nd Place

Class Celebration: A Pizza Party

Class Funding: $2,500 grant

Better For You (and Santa): Back to Nature Chocolate Chunk Cookies

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

As a kid, I always got a kick out of leaving out a plate of cookies and a glass of milk out for Santa.  It is a fun tradition, and one that I am sure Santa enjoys!

This year, we will be leaving out a plate of Back to Nature Chocolate Chunk Cookies.  The ingredient list is nice and simple: unbleached wheat flour, semisweet chocolate, cane sugar, safflower oil, brown rice syrup, baking soda and sea salt.

Note that there are no hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup. There are also no “may contain nuts” disclaimers on the box, which this family greatly appreciates!

These cookies have a hearty and crunchy texture.  I really like the semi-sweet chocolate chunks.  They add just the right amount of sweetness and are a step-up from regular chocolate chips.

Back to Nature Chocolate Chunk Cookies are available to purchase at
almost all major retailers, including Ralphs, Whole Foods Market, and Sprouts Farmers Market. To find a store near you visit: www.backtonaturefoods.com/where-to-buy.  They retail for $3.49-3.99 a box.

Hopefully there will still be some cookies to leave out for Santa come Christmas Eve!

Stop Trying to Be the Perfect Mom: Gospel Centered Mom Book Review

Before I had kids, I had an idealistic view of the mother I wanted to be for my yet to be born children.  Fast forward almost eleven years and it seems that my shortcomings as a mom become more and more evident every day!  My patience wears thin when the kids are arguing, the house is a mess and I am not able to check everything off of my to-do list.

Reading this book, Gospel Centered Mom, by Brooke McGlothlin, was a breath of fresh air.  The author is so candid and authentic regarding her own perceived shortcomings as a mom.  Her stories about her boys are relate-able and funny (although I am sure they were not funny at the time!)

This is not a book about parenting techniques that will help you to have better behaved children.  Instead, the book explains how parenting is an opportunity for us to live out the Gospel on an everyday basis.  For example, the first chapter, entitled “Why Enough Always Feels Out of Reach”, explains that the failures of our kids and as parents show us our need to rely on God.  Another chapter, “Release the Stress of Believing Everything is Your Responsibility” spoke directly to me, as I often care more about my own image more than His plan.  I also appreciated the practicality of her list of “Daily Disciplines for the Gospel-Centered Mom”.

Gospel Centered Mom is a book full of Biblically-based truths that are helpful to store in your heart when the inevitable parenting challenges arise.  There are also discussion questions at the end of the book that would help facilitate a group discussion between moms.  I would highly recommend this book to any mom who struggles with trying to be perfect!

FTC disclaimer: I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.

National Geographic Kids, “Hey, Baby!” Review

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own

Our son n really loves to learn about animals.  Wild Kratts has been his favorite show for a while now.  When we play Twenty Questions and it is his turn to come up with an answer, we do not even have to ask him whether it is an animal because it inevitably is.  Most of the time, none of us can guess his animal because it is something like the Yeti Crab!

Hey, Baby! is a new National Geographic Kids book described as “A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories From Nature’s Nursery”.  The book is organized in sections: “Mountains and Plains Babies”, “River and Rain Forest Babies”, “Jungle and Savanna Babies”, “Desert and Cost Babies,” “Forest and Stream Babies”, “Tropics and Peaks Babies”, “Ice and Snow Babies”, and “Ocean and Sea Babies”.

The photographs are high quality, just as we have come to expect from National Geographic publications.  And, what is it about baby animals that make them so adorable?  This book really showcases the magnificence of so many of the animals that populate our planet.  It would be a wonderful resource for any animal lover in your life, child or adult!
