As you may have noticed, recently I have been working a lot on improving and promoting this blog. At the beginning of this year, I had business cards made, which is important for blogger conferences and face to face interactions. I have been thinking that it would also be nice to have some other LimByLim branded items that I could use as a conversation starter (“LIMBYLIM? What’s that?”) So when StickerYou contacted me about trying out some of their products, I knew it was the perfect opportunity.

StickerYou offers a wide array of products that can be personalized, including stickers, labels, temporary tattoos, magnets, decals, etc. You can upload your own images to the site or use their templates. The possibilities are truly endless.

Snacks My Kids Can Freely Eat: FreeYumm Review + Giveaway

One of the most exciting discoveries for me at Expo West was the number of companies dedicated to nut-free foods. Both of my kids are allergic to tree nuts and peanuts, so we are always on the lookout for snacks that they can safely eat.

One of the brands I found is FreeYumm, a company that has a bakery dedicated to producing bars and cookies without the following allergens:

Milk (all dairy)

Peanuts
Tree Nuts
Wheat/Gluten

Fish
Shellfish
Sulphites
Sesame

I have taught my kids to always check food labels. It seems like so many companies produce products that do not contain nuts listed as an ingredient, yet they add the disclaimer “may contain nuts” which is so frustrating.

It is nice to be able to have peace of mind about these snacks.

Screen-Free Playtime With #GoliathGames + Giveaway

When my kids get bored, it is natural for them to gravitate toward the iPad, a tablet or our Xbox for entertainment. While I think that is fine in moderation, I have been trying to encourage them to play screen-free games as well. Goliath Games is a company I have found that has a wide variety of “traditional” games that appeal to kids of all ages. Today I am reviewing two of their most popular games.

The first game is Pop the Pig:

n has speech therapy at school to help him say his “r” sounds. His speech teacher incorporates a lot of games into his group sessions, and this is one of them. He was excited to play this game at home with k.

It looks like k was excited too! To play, players take turns rolling the die. Then you pop “hamburgers” into the pig’s mouth and push down on his head. The more you pump, the more the pig’s belly grows until it suddenly pops! Pop the Pig is designed for ages 4 and up, 2-6 players.

The second fun game is Catch the Fox:

First you roll the die to see how many chickens to add into the fox’s pockets. Then, you push his head one time. Like magic, the fox’s pants disappear and the chickens will roll everywhere!

Once the fox’s pants drop, it is a mad dash to pick up the chickens one by one and place them in the coop.

A victory dance! Catch the Fox is for 2 to 4 players; ages 4 and up.

Cleaner Cleaning: Quinn’s Pure Castile Organic Soap Review + Giveaway

I have been on a quest to reduce the toxic chemicals in my home by evaluating my stash of personal care and cleaning supplies. Quinn’s makes an organic castile soap made with certified organic argan, jojoba and hemp oils. It is made with 100% biodegradable ingredients, so it is better for you and for the environment.

This 32 oz. bottle of Quinn’s Unscented Pure Castile Organic Soap is pretty hefty. (I love the cute design of the packaging as well!) There are so many uses for this soap. A handy list is printed right on the box. I am seriously going to keep this picture on my phone and save it as a reference.

I started out by making Multi-Purpose Cleaning Spray by mixing 1/8 cup castile soap with 2 cups of warm water. I poured it into a spray bottle and made a label with my trusty label-maker.

I personally like that this version is unscented. If you prefer scent, you can customize it with your favorite essential oil. I think a citrus essential oil would also be nice for this multi-purpose cleaning spray.

My Husband’s Experience With Professional At-Home Teeth Whitening + Giveaway

I have tried the teeth whitening strips that you can find at the drugstore in the past and have had varying success. I always wondered what difference a professional whitening system could do, but the cost made me think twice. Plus, extra trips to the dentist did not sound appealing.

Smile Brilliant is an at-home teeth whitening system that comes straight from a dental lab through the mail. The company offered me a chance to try it out, but I was not eager to have close-ups of my mouth on the internet. However, my husband D is a good sport, and volunteered to try it out!

This is the kit that was sent to us in the mail.

‘The first step is to make impressions of both your upper and lower teeth using the provided paste and impression trays.

The process was fairly simple with the step-by-step instructions that were provided. I then mailed the molds off to the lab in the provided pre-paid envelope. About a week later, D received his custom-fitted trays. I received an e-mail when the lab received the molds, and a notification when the trays were done and ready to be shipped to our home.

D followed the directions and wore the trays with the gel for a couple of hours for two weeks at night.

We were both impressed with the results. D only experienced a little gum/tooth sensitivity after the second application. Other than that, it was a painless and seamless process.

It seems like more and more people I know are either vegan or vegetarian. I have also noticed that the grocery options for vegans and vegetarians have been rapidly expanding in response to this trend. While the members of my family are all omnivores, we do have meatless meals about once a week. I first heard about Alpha Burritos, 100% plant-based frozen burritos, at ExpoWest. I recently tried these burritos with my family and I was curious to see if they could tell that they were meatless.

The Alpha Burritos come in four varieties: Mexicali, Philly Sandwich, Chicken Fajita and Pizza. I was only able to find the Philly Sandwich and Pizza burritos at my local store. (I saw that there were a couple of empty display boxes for the other flavors, so I guess they must be gaining in popularity?)

The kids wanted to try the Philly Sandwich burrito. I did not show them the package or tell them that it was plant-based.

They both gave it a thumbs up, and neither of them suspected it was meatless. k was impressed by the fluffiness of the tortilla. I guess she has had her share of mediocre frozen burritos. I thought n might not be a fan of the onions and green peppers, but he ate the whole thing!

D tried the Pizza burrito, and he immediately noticed that something was “different”. I tried both types, and it did seem that the Pizza burrito was more obviously vegan, mostly because the vegetables were more prominent. I am curious to see how the Mexicali and Chick’n Fajita flavors compare.

All of the varieties of Alpha Burritos are 300-320 calories, and contain 9-10 grams of fat, and 11 g of protein. They are free of GMO’s, cholesterol, hormones, corn syrup, artificial preservatives, and all animal products. Although I would consider them to be somewhat pricey for my family’s budget to just enjoy as a snack, they are reasonable if you consider them as part of a meal. I could see them being a good option to take to work or to have on hand for busy weeknights. Plus, you cannot beat the convenience when you want something quick and healthy.
