Our Children Are “Like Arrows”; Movie Review + Giveaway #LikeArrows #FlyBy

When conflict, rebellion, and resentment overwhelm their family, Charlie and Alice are forced to rethink their parenting strategy. In the process, they realize how critical intentionality and focus are when shaping and molding young lives. FamilyLife’s first feature film explores the challenges and joys that come with raising children. Through a journey that unfolds over 50 years, Charlie and Alice discover the unmistakable power of family. Together, they learn that knowing and living by God’s Word is what brings transformation and hope to any family.

I had an opportunity to watch a preview of this movie.  It follows a couple  on their journey from having their first baby to having great-grandchildren!  It was interesting to see them live through different stages of life.  In my own life, I realize how the baby/young child phase went by so quickly.  We are now entering the tween/teenager stage, and I see how our interactions are changing.  I liked how this movie emphasized that spiritual wisdom is more important than academic success and the importance of dads in their kids’ lives.  I found that the part talking about FamilyLife felt too much like a commercial, but I think the overall message of the movie is important for Christians and non-Christians alike.  Due to some mature content, I would not recommend this movie for young children.

Make Art With Your Memories: Canvas Factory Review + Giveaway

I received a free canvas print from Canvas Factory in exchange for this review.  All opinions are my own.

image

Although we have lived in our house since 2009, we still have a lot of blank walls.  I can be indecisive when it comes to home decor, since I want the things in my home to be meaningful and to reflect my style.  At the same time, I have taken thousands of pictures of my family and places we have visited.  However, most of these pictures live here on the blog; I rarely have them printed.  Well, I had the opportunity to try out Canvas Factory and I have found a solution to my problem!

Before this blogging opportunity came up, I had actually recently ordered another print from Canvas Factory.  This is a picture of me and the kids in Sedona.  I really liked the red rock background.  When D saw it he wanted to know why he was not included.  Well, he was the one taking the picture!  I promised him that I would include him in the next one.

IMG_1904

Canvas Factory makes the ordering process really easy.  You choose the size you want, and then upload a picture from your computer.  The most difficult part for me was choosing which picture I wanted to use!

IMG_1891

The time between placing my order and having it delivered to my home was really quick.

IMG_1906

I am seriously impressed with the quality of the canvas.  The sides are 1.2″ thick and the corners are neatly finished.

IMG_1907

Here you can see that I chose the “wraparound” version for this canvas.  You can also choose to do a mirror effect, or to have a solid color on the sides if you want to preserve more of the photo on the front.  Another customization they offer is to add text, which could be fun.

IMG_1914

The canvases come with hangers, so they can be displayed vertically or horizontally.  I also appreciate not having to worry about frames with these canvas prints.

IMG_1920

I thought these canvases would look nice in our entryway.  Both of these canvases are 16″ x 20″, to give you a sense of scale.

IMG_1927

I really like how these prints give a pop of color to the walls. It is also nice to be greeted with warm family memories right when I walk through our front door.

A canvas print would make a lovely present for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, or any occasion, really.  It seems like Canvas Factory always has a good sale going on, so check out their site.  For our Canadian friends, order here.  I also have an opportunity to win a 16″ x 20″ for yourself!

Reach Your Momentum Milestones: Live. Save. Spend. Repeat. Review + Giveaway

One of the big financial goals that we set a few years back was to pay off our mortgage by the age of forty.  (I think I will be sharing a post that D has already drafted about that journey in the near future.)  When I read that Kim Anderson, the author of Live. Save. Spend. Repeat., The Life You Want With The Money You Have, along with her husband, paid off their mortgage before they were thirty years old, I was impressed.

Anderson, who has a blog called Thrifty Little Mom, provides solid, practical advice about what to do if you are struggling to get out of debt or are living paycheck to paycheck,  As a couple, we have already implemented many of the money-saving strategies that are offered in this book.  For example, we budget our money into different categories, and we save money through our spending habits (groceries, utilities, eating out and entertainment), etc.  I can personally vouch for these strategies because we have used many of them.

However, what I found the most inspiring in this book was Anderson’s discussion about what she calls “Momentum Milestones”.  She defines momentum as “the strength of a force that grows stronger over time” and a milestone is “an important point in our progress or development”.  Putting these words together can give your life direction instead of “simply surviving the everyday”.  Anderson encourages her readers to evaluate the dreams they have for their lives in the next three years, five years, and ten years.  Then she outlines five steps that are necessary to achieve these milestones.  This section really helped me in thinking about the direction of my life, including with developing this blog!

Finally, I appreciate that Anderson is a Christian, and writes about the importance of investing in your relationship with God.  Although most of the strategies outlined in the book could be implemented by Christians and non-Christians alike, Anderson recognizes that we should always ultimately seek God’s direction in our lives: “We’ll never satisfy our wants until we magnify our need for Christ.”

Live. Save. Spend. Repeat. is now available on Amazon.

I am also hosting a giveaway for a paperback copy of Live. Save. Repeat. by Kim Anderson!

My First #NewHopeBloggerBox + NeoCell Giveaway

We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

I recently joined the New Hope Blogger Co-op and am so excited to be part of this community.  Last week I received a box of samples of natural products to try out, review and share about with all of you.

I received the following samples:

Of course, the snack items were the products that immediately grabbed my attention.  I am always on the lookout for healthier foods to snack on.  I will be sharing more about those products as I try them.

Another product that caught my eye was the NeoCell Glow Matrix Advanced Skin Hydrator.  This was because I had also received samples of this product, along with NeoCell Beauty Infusion Refreshing Collagen Drink Mix at ShiftCon earlier this year.  Now, I am not a doctor, so please do your own research, but recently I have been hearing a lot about the benefits of collagen.  Here is an article about collagen that I found helpful.  Some of the claimed benefits are healthier skin, hair and nails.

Since I received an abundance of samples from NeoCell, I thought I would host a giveaway for 15 samples of NeoCell Glow Matrix Advanced Skin Hydrator and 15 samples of NeoCell Beauty Infusion Refreshing Collagen Drink Mix.

My Fantastic Glasstic Water Bottle + Giveaway

I received a Glasstic Water Bottle for free for review, but all opinions are my own.

Finding the perfect water bottle can be difficult.  In fact, I was just recently cleaning out my cupboards, and I found that I had over forty of them–no joke, k counted them!  We donated or threw out the vast majority of our water bottles because they were faulty in some way.  Some were not leak-proof, some were too wide, some were too heavy, some were too flimsy, etc.  Ironically, a few days later, I received a Glasstic water bottle in the mail to test out.  Well, I am happy to report that this one is a keeper and is now my favorite water bottle!

image

The Glasstic water bottles are unique because they feature an inner glass wall and a protective outer shell made of plastic.  Get it, Glass + Plastic = Glasstic?  It has a lock to prevent spills, and the seal on the water bottle is truly leak-proof.  I once had a water bottle leak in my purse and ruin my camera, so I know the pain of a leaky water bottle.

image

I like the size of this water bottle.  It fits nicely in our car cupholder.  The handle is also convenient.

image

I brought it along to the gym and it fit perfectly in the elliptical machine cup holder.

One of my New Year resolutions is always to drink more water.  I have a feeling that my Glasstic water bottle will help me achieve my goal!

I am pleased to offer a giveaway for one of my readers to win a Glasstic water bottle in the color of your choice!

Glory Song by Matt Redman {Giveaway} #GlorySong #FlyBy

If you are at all familiar with contemporary Christian music, you probably know Matt Redman’s music, if not the artist himself.  Some of his well-known songs have become “Christian classics”, including ‘The Heart of Worship’, ‘You Never Let Go’ and ‘Blessed Be Your Name’.  According to his website, “More recent compositions include the Grammy-nominated ‘Our God’, and the double-Grammy winning ’10,000 Reasons’ – for which he also received a Billboard award in the USA.”

I received a copy of his newest album, “Glory Song”, AND I have an opportunity for you to win a copy for yourself! (See below.)  I really enjoyed this CD.  I like how there are both upbeat tempo praise songs, as well as more slow, contemplative songs. My favorite songs on this album are Gospel Song, and Gracefully Broken. They are powerful from both a vocal and lyrical point of view.

More album information:

Matt Redman teamed up with several of his worship-artist friends for this album, first releasing the track “Gracefully Broken (feat. Tasha Cobbs Leonard).” Tasha Cobbs Leonard also released her own version of this song on the same day! The album also features Kierra Sheard, Guvna B, Madison Cunningham, and Kim Walker-Smith.
